June 18, 1918 – August 11, 2011

My maternal grandfather passed away on August 11, 2011. The 93 years he spent on this earth were full of love and happiness. His last days were spent in peace with his family, whom he loved, at his side.

It is not length of life, but depth of life.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

One stands back at times and reflects on where they are in this world. The pace of life leads all of us in several directions. When do we decide who is the one to join us on this journey of life? What occurs for one to choose this person? Why do we need this life long intimacy and companionship?

The main facts in human life are five: birth, food, sleep, love and death.

E. M. Forster

These main facts of life, stated by Forster, are accurate. So, why do we need so much more satisfaction and indulgence? We that use art as a form of expression strive for a deeper sense of self. To feel and live, life’s pain is sometimes inevitable.

The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.

Henry David Thoreau

The hardest part of my grandfather’s death was feeling the pain my grandmother, who was married to him for 67 years, was going through. They had 5 children who gave them 17 grandchildren, who gave them 20 great grandchildren. They created a family, a group of people held together by bonds of love and affection.

It leads me to the thought that the one you love is the one you leave. It is the one whom you created your reality of this world with and whom you have shared this journey with.

Enjoy the journey of love and life and make everyday count!!
