There may not have been a cohesive theme at 2014 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala but there were plenty of contenders for best dressed. For pure glamour, it’s a toss-up between Amy Adams and Taylor Swift, both of whom wore Oscar de la Renta gowns with bustle-like skirts, similar to the sheaths with emphatic bursts of tulle pioneered by Charles James, the mid-century Anglo-American couturier whose work the Costume Institute is celebrating. Emmy Rossum’s bright yellow floral strapless Caroline Herrera also had a fetchingly vintage feel.
