Just wrapped up New York Bridal Fashion Week. It was as lovely as the weather in the city during my stay: fresh, bright and beautiful! As I look back at the Fall 2012 collections I try to pinpoint what exactly inspired each designer; was it an art exhibit, a past designers collection, or current trends in the market?
Bridal fashion brings you the usual white dress; floral, texture, lace, and tulle. From that the purity of a bride walks down the catwalk. This was not the case at Vera Wang this season the collection was presented in her new edgy workspace in Gramercy and through her inspiration, “Witchcraft,” she created stunning gowns ingeniously designed in nudes and black which made a revolutionary artistic statement.
This fashion week, circa 1950’s Dior had a strong presence on the runways at Reem Acra, Ines Di Santo, and Rivini. The dark and macabre clearly had a hand in the inspiration at Vera Wang, taking us back to the days of Alexander McQueen. The Royal Wedding left us with the world of bridal revisiting lace for every bride shopping today. Anna Maier-Ulla Maija delivered a collection with intricately designed lace gowns. Carolina Herrera showcased royal compliments to her spectacular lace gowns with additions to create multiple looks for the big day. At Oscar de la Renta they delivered stunning embroideries with beautiful 3D floral accents and preciously pleated organza revisiting classic couture.
Notable stand out gowns were showcased cross collections. Intricately designed chiffon, silk tulle and chantilly lace created at Vera Wang. Exquisite embroideries at Oscar de la Renta. Embellished lace at Carolina Herrera. Laser cut confections presented at Reem Acra. A sensual destination look with a sexy slit at Ines Di Santo. All significant trends in the market today. It was clear that all the designers wanted to showcase diversity and versatility in their collections. An eminent European inspiration was clearly present in each runway show taking us back to the days of old couture and theatrics.
It was truly an epic market with my EA girls. The designers Ever After represents delivered inspiring collections for the bride of today!
