“Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”
These days we’ve lost focus on the actual talent, skill and craft that it takes to create couture fashion and are focused on the marketing and social media powers instead. This exhibit turns the wheel on these 2016 visions and is hyper focused on the process of making these exquisite fashion pieces. It truly explores the relationship between the handmade and the mechanized in fashion.
One of the most interesting parts is the layout of the exhibit, the galleries are divided tenets of design outlined in Diderot’s 1751 Encyclopedia: embroidery, feather work, artificial flowers, lacework, leatherwork, pleating, tailoring and dressmaking.
It is about workmanship; this is an exhibition for true fashion lovers.
